Vote Hillary

Artist: Deborah Kass

Year: 2016

Medium: Screenprint

Edition: 77/250

Size: 42 x 42 in.

Declaring her support for the 2016 democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, New York artist, Deborah Kass has created a vibrant Andy Warhol-inspired screen print. The print features an irate Trump with the the words “Vote Hillary” scrawled under Trump’s Portrait. The work mimics Warhol’s iconic screenprint “Vote McGovern”, where the title encourages its audience to support the democratic presidential nominee George McGovern, under a portrait of the Republican Richard Nixon. In Kass’ work, the face of Trump is pale blue against a dull orange background much like the original Warhol print. Kass explains she had the idea behind this piece for years. She originally wanted to during the 2004 election, when George W. Bush was the incumbent and John Kerry was the Democratic nominee. Kass stated, “There was no way to make it happen then,” she said, “but sometimes the perfect opportunity comes up at another point in your life. It’s always been in the back of my mind, but anyway, it wouldn’t have been as much fun with Mitt Romney. It’s the right image for the right election."
