Marilyn Monroe (Silver) by WarHo™ is a 2025 screenprint on canvas that places the enduring image of Monroe against a shimmering field of metallic silver, further animated by the addition of diamond dust. The surface glitters with a spectral shimmer, echoing not only the silver screen that made her famous, but also the silver-draped walls of Warhol’s Factory—a studio synonymous with glamour, experimentation, and creative myth-making. In this variation, the interplay of luminous silver and sparkling texture heightens the illusion of depth, casting Monroe as both icon and apparition.
As with all of WarHo™’s work, the print is pulled by hand from custom-made screens using the Gene Korman publicity photograph—an image immortalized by Warhol and now in the public domain. The metallic acrylic base evokes Warhol’s own fascination with reflective surfaces, famously explored in his portraits of Liz Taylor, Elvis Presley, and his 1966 Self-Portrait. The diamond dust—an innovation popularized in Warhol’s later studio years by master printer Rupert Jasen Smith—adds a further layer of historical and material resonance, transforming the image into something tactile, dazzling, and almost untouchable.
In Marilyn Monroe (Silver), surface becomes substance. The glittering finish doesn’t just reflect light—it refracts meaning, casting the image of Monroe as an enduring symbol of fame, beauty, and the seductive gleam of artifice. WarHo™’s portrait captures not only a likeness, but the spectacle that surrounds it—shimmering, stylized, and ultimately unforgettable.
