Marilyn Monroe (Silver) by WarHo™ is a 2025 screenprint on canvas that places the enduring image of Monroe against a shimmering field of metallic silver. The cool, reflective background nods not only to the silver screen that made her famous, but also to the silver-walled aesthetic of Andy Warhol’s Factory—an environment of glamour, experimentation, and creative myth-making. In this print, the contrast between the dark ink and luminous surface heightens the sense of Monroe as both icon and illusion, preserved in perpetual light.

As with all of WarHo™’s work, the piece is screenprinted by hand using custom-made screens based on the original Gene Korman publicity photograph, now in the public domain. The silver background, applied with acrylic polymer paint, evokes Warhol’s own use of metallics in portraits of figures like Liz Taylor and Elvis Presley, and even in his haunting 1966 Self-Portrait. Through this material choice, WarHo™ draws the viewer into a broader conversation about fame, reflection, and the porous boundary between subject and surface.

In Marilyn Monroe (Silver), the silver finish is more than aesthetic—it’s metaphor. It speaks to Hollywood’s seductive sheen, to the mirrored repetition of screen-printed identity, and to the legacy of an artist who turned celebrity into art. WarHo™’s portrait captures not just a likeness, but a legacy refracted through silver light.
