Marilyn Monroe (Pink) by WarHo™ is a 2025 screenprint on canvas that submerges the iconic image of Monroe beneath a saturated veil of dusky pink. This unmodulated field of color acts as both backdrop and atmosphere, tinting every feature with a unified tone. Unlike versions where glittering or metallic elements draw the eye to the contours of the face, here it’s the color itself that takes center stage. The result is striking: the familiar portrait recedes slightly, as if veiled or preserved behind a single, vivid mood.

As with all WarHo™ works, the image is pulled by hand from original screens made using the Gene Korman publicity photo that Warhol famously adapted. The silkscreen process, with its visible halftone pattern and tactile ink, anchors the work in the visual language of Pop, but the pink wash shifts the focus. The color evokes a spectrum of associations—femininity, desire, tenderness, artifice—and in doing so, it subtly reorients how we engage with Monroe’s image. Rather than elevating her to icon status, this version flattens the hierarchy between figure and field.
