Marilyn Monroe (White) by WarHo™ is a 2025 screenprint on a 12 x 12 inch canvas that pares the icon down to her most essential form. Rendered in stark black on a bright white ground, the portrait feels like a fragment of mass media—grainy, halftoned, and slightly faded, as though pulled from old newsprint or photocopy. The effect is not one of nostalgia, but of repetition; a face we’ve seen a thousand times, rendered once more.
Created by hand using screens based on the Gene Korman publicity photo, the work echoes Warhol’s early interest in the endless mechanical reproduction of celebrity. At this smaller scale, the image loses none of its punch—if anything, it sharpens into something more brittle, more ghostly. Marilyn Monroe (White) is less a tribute than a reminder: this is what happens to icons—we print, copy, and circulate them until they become something else entirely.
